FRESH SHEETS

Ever notice how you get a great night's sleep when you have fresh sheets on your bed?  The kittens can certainly attest to that.  They took unusually long power naps once I changed all their sheets.

Close ups of the black kittens (Shirley and Ritchie) are so hard to come by because their cute little faces don't turn out due to the lack of lighting.  And since I can't take the kittens outside to photograph, I have to wait until they are sitting back and relaxing to take a decent picture of them.

These little guys will be up for adoption on Saturday, June 14th!  Hope there will be a flurry of adoptees wanting to bring these cuties home with them.

"CHARMIN" KITTIES

You always have to wonder what kittens are up to when they are making a lot of noise behind closed doors.  Last night, we heard more noise than usual, so a quick inspection of the bathroom showed us exactly what the kittens were up to ...

They discovered the toilet paper roll and decided to unroll it in its entirety onto the floor and romp around through it like children playing in the first snow fall of the year.

Laverne in the thick of it all

Laverne was having the most fun.  Of the entire litter, I think she resembles the Charmin kitten the most.  I should look at my Charmin toilet paper packaging and compare the two side-by-side.

A video of them high on toilet paper ...

One more week and the kittens will all be up for adoption on the *VOKRA website!  Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 7th if you would like to put your name on the list for one of these sweethearts.

NEW DISCOVERIES

When kittens reach a certain age, they start to discover new things to play with, lay in or fixate on.  One new thing that they have discovered is my Corona cowboy hat.  They love to play with the tassels, drag the hat around or hide underneath the hat and swat at whatever kitten happens to walk by.

Most of the time however, I simply find a kitten just relaxing in the hat.

Chachi settling in for his nap

Hubby found an unexpected visitor in his room, so I thought I'd capture it and make a formal introduction to the kittehs.  And yes, I released this guy shortly after the kittens said their respective 'hellos'.

Round and round he goes ...

The kittens should be up on the VOKRA website on Saturday, June 14th and I believe adoption appointments can be set up shortly thereafter!

PHOTO SHOOT

The kittens are 6 weeks old today, which means I have to get their bios and pictures submitted into the *VOKRA database.  Taking pictures of 6 rambunctious kittens is no easy task.  Most of the time, I get blurry faces or when I'm trying to take a picture of one kitten, another one will decide to photo bomb my subject.

By the time I get enough pictures of one, the rest have decided to take their kitten naps and all I have are pictures of napping kittens.

VISITORS

With the kittehs being old enough now to welcome visitors, we had an onslaught of family and friends come visit and play with the kittens these past few days.  Everybody's immediate reactions bounced between "AWWW!!" or "They're so TINY!"  Yes, being only 5 weeks old, they are pretty tiny.  Tiny and so adorable.

Some kittens are just so much more photogenic than others.  They actually stay still enough for me to take a proper picture.  With my Nikon D80 camera on the fritz, I've had to rely on my Ipad Mini to take pictures.  So far, so good I suppose.

BASKET FULL OF KITTENS

All our adorable kittens sleep, play and eat in their basket.  I don't know which activity is more entertaining to watch.

They are all old enough now to be cuddled and kissed, and believe me I've been giving them plenty!  I have also given my family and friends free reign to do the same.  All the adoration that's coming their way ... poor kittens won't know what hit them!

***

One of my friends came by to feed the kittens when I was work and had a hilarious experience that I just have to share:

"Yesterday was fun.

Right in the middle of playing with the baby kittehs, a GIANT black spider (like one of those huge wolf spiders) comes running into the bathroom.

I start panicking. You know I hate spiders. I'm crying (on the inside), the kittens are crying (ok, more than likely they are just chatting and being kittens), and suddenly he starts to charge towards us like he has some sort of vendetta for taking over the bathroom with cuteness. So I take the only weapon that I have: the feather toy, which only moments before was providing a fun and enjoyable evening for all involved and I swat the spider.

Well, that didn't do much, cause you know, it's a feather. The spider goes running behind the kitty litter boxes, more than likely to plan his next attack and I'm left shaking, cause I haven't seen one of those spiders in awhile, and they are damn terrifying. But I've gotta save the kittens right? So I tell them I'll be right back, and I run into the kitchen and grab a glass, thinking that I'll catch the spider and let him go outside, no harm done and hey, while I'm at it, I'll take a photo of him to send to you cause why not? :)

So I come back with the glass, and I'm slowly pulling back the kitty litter, and all the kittens are trying to figure out why i'm moving the kitty litter so they start swarming. "No baby kittehs," I say, transporting them back to their bed, "it's dangerous!" Of course I keep on having to switch between trying to find the spider and trying to keep the baby kittehs away, cause they have no idea what I'm saying.

Finally I move the litter box enough to see the spider. It's like he's waiting for me to find him, like the villain at the end of all the superhero movies. He's under the cupboard in the corner, lurking in the shadows and all that. If he had a dark, twisted monologue about how he and I are the same, that's where he would've said it. So while this spider is doing his little monologue and staring me down, I reach for the feather thing to poke him to get him out. Then, in a super lightning motion, he comes out way too fast, and he's hurdling towards me. So I take the cup and in my attempt to capture him...

I squish him.

He explodes into a oozy, crumpled mess between the cup and floor.

1. I'm like gagging cause there's dead spider guts on the bathroom floor, and
2. I'm now sad that I didn't get a photo to go along with this horrible story.

I hope you're having fun at work  o.O

Yes, I washed the cup."

KITTY BOOTCAMP

Now that the kittens are eating Mommy's food, they are naturally going to have to use the kitty litter box.  Kittens don't have to use the potty when they are newborns and will not up until they turn 3 or 4 weeks old.  They just produce a few drops of urine and from what I've noticed, are quite flatulent!

So, the first few poops happened in Mommy's bed (as opposed to kitties' bed), so I immediately put their poops into the kitty litter box and put all of the kittens in the box to show them where they are suppose to go.  So far, we haven't had any accidents - they all know where they need to do their business.

I find it odd that some of these kittens meow when they are pooping.  At first I thought they were having difficulties going #2, but apparently it's quite normal for kittens to meow when they are using the facilities.

It's weird that when one kitten needs to use the kitty litter, another one soon follows.  Some kitties, like Chachi, will wait patiently for their turn outside the box.  *SO CUTE*

Are you done in there yet?!

In addition to training them to use the kitty litter box, I've also gotten them trained to not fight me when I give them their little mani/pedis.  Some of the kittens struggle a bit more than the others, but with a quick tug at the scruff of their necks and a firm "No", they sit quietly in place until I'm done.

The next challenge:  Get them to all use the toilet - that would be awesome!
