3 WEEKS OLD

Another week and another weigh in.

The kittens are now actively moving around their kennel and giving me a lot of attitude about being picked up. Some are a bit more easy going, while others just plain scream bloody murder each time I take them out of their safety zone ... *cough* ... Victoria ... *cough*.

All the kittens have put on weight, the numbers of which are surprising to me. Some kittens do not seem as heavy (or light) as their posted numbers, but size can be deceiving. I suppose some kittens are just big boned or have more fluff than others to mask their weights. Here are the results:

+ 1 oz from last weigh in

+ 1.8 oz

+ 1.8 oz

+ 1 oz

+ 1 oz

+ 1.6 oz

Excuse the fuzziness of the pictures, but it was difficult to get the kittens to face my way while looking up and to take the picture within a few seconds ... all this while Princess was staring me down.

They are developing very distinct personalities, all of which I will elaborate on next week.

2 WEEKS OLD

A lot of growing up has been happening this week.

From my previous post, the kittens have now opened up their eyes, starting walking around their box and are meowing up a storm when they can't get to the milk bar fast enough. Mom is looking a bit exhausted ... but aren't all busy moms with 6 kids? I've moved them out from the kennel into a lined box so that Princess will have more room to stretch out. This also gives me easier access to see and pick up the kittens.

Let's see how fast they grow up!

ONE WEEK OLD

The kittens are officially a week old today!

It's amazing how fast kittens grow. You'll see as I track their growth week by week. It's astonishing how much chonkier (I know that's not a word, but let's just go with it) the kittens get as the days pass.

I needed help to get the kittens' pictures taken for the database, so we brought them into the main bathroom for better lighting. Of course, Princess was not having any of it as each time she heard her kittens crying, she would try to retrieve them. I worked as fast as I could to get their pictures taken and returned to the safety of their kennel, but the stress of my husband hurrying me up and Princess's obvious unease with me touching her kittens only allowed me to take one quick picture of each kitten. I didn't have a few to choose from, so what I got was what I got.

I had two different piles of kittens: one pile were the kittens that had their pictures already taken and the other pile were the kittens that still needed their pictures taken. Well, in the middle of the mayhem, Princess started to bring some kittens from one pile to the other. Of course, this only caused more confusion as the kittens are similar in coloring so I couldn't tell which one was which. I had to just let Princess do her thing and go back to see who I had missed and tried to finish off the photo shoot that way.

As Mommy was named 'Princess', I stayed along those same lines and picked royal names for this Royal Family. Here are the results:

KING Arthur of Camelot

KING George VI of the United Kingdom

PRINCESS Grace of Monaco

Henry VIII, KING of England

PRINCE Rainier of Monaco

QUEEN Victoria of the United Kingdom

BATCH #21 HAS ARRIVED

To mildly put it, 2020 has been an insane year.

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed the landscape of our daily lives. Businesses are going under left, right and center. We are changing the way we interact with friends, family, colleagues and complete strangers. I'm sure a lot of you have found it difficult to adjust to our new way of life, but as Dr. Bonnie Henry keeps reiterating, "This is not forever". So, BE KIND - BE CALM - BE SAFE.

I have waited 8 months to receive my latest batch (#21). My last batch was back in November 2019. Oh my how life has changed.

I went to pick up Mommy cat (Princess) and her 3-day old (!!!) kittens from VOKRA's Operations Centre this afternoon. I wore my mask, rung the bell (as we are not allowed into Operations any longer) and waited outside on the loading dock to be handed my next batch. 3-day old kittens are the youngest I have ever fostered.

Princess is pretty much a kitten herself, being only a little over a year old. She's a sweet, friendly kitten that was already coming up to my hand for pets after I got her settled in. She's a tuxedo cat, along with one of her 6 kittens. The other 5 kittens have tabby markings in different shades.

Watch how fast they grow!
